A series of free art workshops begins on Saturday, February 22, 2025, offering the opportunity for children across the Coachella Valley to discover the art of renowned artist David Hockney and to create their own HOCKNEY+YOU-inspired painting. Sponsored by Jordan D. Schnitzer and his family foundation to educate and enrich children, this is an immersive experience giving kids of all ages from toddlers up, step-by-step instructions to create their own masterpiece.
The workshops coincide with the current exhibition David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed at the Palm Springs Art Museum on display through March 2025. The exhibit presents a wide body of works produced during Hockney’s six-decade-long career, featuring nearly 200 of his works in a variety of media, including prints, collages, photographs, iPhone, and iPad drawings.
With over 22,000 works in his collection, Schnitzer has shared his vast art collection through the family’s foundation with more than 180 museums and exhibitions for over 25 years.
Jordan Schnitzer states, “I was lucky. I grew up with art in my parents’ home when I was young. I have one of the largest art collections in the country, and as much joy as I get looking at art, I get even more joy from sharing it with others, especially children! David Hockney is one of the most important artists in the world today and the exhibition of his work at the Palm Springs Art Museum from our collection has been the highest attended exhibition in the history of the museum! Now we get to share that art with 3,000 grade school students from across the Coachella Valley.”
The first workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 22 at Old Town Artisan Studios located at 78046 Calle Barcelona in La Quinta. The second workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 2 at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert. The third workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 at Veteran’s Memorial Park located at 1500 4th Street in Coachella. The final workshop is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 in Downtown Park in Palm Springs, located at Museum Way and Belardo Road.
