I hate to see accident victims get run over a second time by the insurance companies who will Deny and Delay. Insurance companies would have you believe that they are in the business of providing complete and unwavering financial protection to their customers when accidents cause serious injuries and loss of property. It makes for effective marketing messages, but the truth falls somewhat short of that. Insurance companies are primarily in the business of producing profits for their stakeholders. If that means underpaying valid claims for reimbursement or Denying and Delaying them all together, then so be it. Ultimately, what insurance companies are most protective of is their bottom line. Remember insurance companies are “Not on your side” and you will not be in “good hands,” as your “friendly neighbor” will not give you a “piece of the rock.”

Finding the right lawyer can be challenging. Start by looking for a local lawyer who has been practicing at least 20 years and ideally an award-winning accident lawyer. Of course, you want a lawyer who has handled hundreds or thousands of accident cases…successfully. A good Car Accident Attorney will fight for maximum compensation and help you get medical treatment and manage bills. Of course, a local accident lawyer has relationships with local body shops who will get your car out of the tow yards that charge a fortune daily, for just sitting there.
You want to also inquire about the fee structure. Will the lawyer take your case on an hourly, flat fee or a contingency. A contingency is where the lawyer doesn’t get paid until you get paid. Living in the greater Palm Springs area, you want a local lawyer who will know the local doctors, judges and attorneys. A lawyer from LA or OC would be a mistake.
Inquire from the lawyer how long s/he has been in practice and whether the lawyer goes to trial or only settles cases outside of the courtroom. Be sure the lawyer agrees to advance the costs and one who knows local doctors who can care for you on a lien, when possible. By researching the lawyer, you can inquire from the California State Bar whether there have been complaints and the verify the lawyer is currently licensed in California. Personal Injury law allows injured parties to file against those responsible for causing their harm. However, it must be within 2 years per the new Statute of Limitations
