Every two years the City of Palm Desert’s Art in Public Places Commission selects 18 Sculptures to be proudly displayed on the median on El Paseo. Applicants are not only from Southern California, but from all over the country, (& they receive hundreds of submissions). The finalists’ sculptures — exciting, powerful, & eclectic — will be displayed on the El Paseo median for two years: 2015-2016. The Sculptures are on El Paseo between Highway 74 and Portola.
The winners each received a Bonus award of $2,500 — all Sculptures are for sale to the public, and the artists are allowed to keep 100% of their commission from the sale of their Sculptures. The sculptures chosen for this 2 year exhibit are: BRIAN SCHADER (Sentinel); DAVID REID-MARR (Cloudburst); RICK RANDALL & JAYDON STERLING-RANDALL (Pinwheels); DIXIE JEWETT (Clippity-Clop); JANIS OSBORNE (Galaxy of Colors); ANITA EDMAN (Pirouette); CATHRIN HOSKINSON (The Wind in the Trees); ROBERT CRAIG (Sea-Saw); MARIE HUNT (Birdie on the 18th); TOM BOLLINGER (Gaia); ROLLIN KARG (Canteano’s Son); GERALD CLARKE JR. (Enduring Traditions); MINEKO GRIMMER (Fountain); JOE FORREST SACKETT (Four, Three, Two, One); DAVID THEFELD (Blue Korn); MITCHELL TAYLOR (Joshua Tree Now); MARIA HUNT (Smoketrees); HENRY McCANN (Clifford Henderson Bust); CRAIF FRENCH (On Point); JOHN RICHEN (Legends); & MARIO PIKUS — the only Artist to have 2 Sculptures in the Exhibition — as a pair (Crazy Horse 2 and Thunder Horse).
All of the above artists have individual Websites, which can be accessed on Google through their names!
