Star-Studded Cast to Perform in One-Night-Only Benefit for Award-Winning Company

Coyote StageWorks will present a star-studded performance of “Side By Side By Sondheim” at 6:30 pm on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Helene Galen Performing Arts Center. The one-night-only event will benefit Coyote StageWorks, a not-for-profit company dedicated to advancing theatre as a vital art form in the Coachella Valley.

“Side By Side By Sondheim” pays tribute to the genius of composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, widely considered to be Broadway’s most innovative and influential artist. Featuring a dazzling array of many of Sondheim’s best-known songs, the musical revue includes numbers from landmark shows that revolutionized musical theatre. An impressive roster of stars assembled by Chuck Yates, Founding Artistic Director of Coyote StageWorks, will also perform classic numbers co-written by Sondheim and legends such as Leonard Bernstein, Jule Styne, and Richard Rodgers.

Scheduled to perform in the highly anticipated benefit are stage and screen stars Gloria Loring and Sal Mistretta, who were cast in the 2014 Coyote StageWorks productions of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” and “The Man Who Came To Dinner” respectively. Also appearing are Broadway veterans Alix Korey, David Engel and Bets Malone, famous actor/directors Don Amendolia and Larry Raben, and the talented Alan Denny. Local favorites named to the growing cast list include singer and actress Julie Rosser, philanthropist and restaurateur Jerry Keller, the Company’s own Chuck Yates, and beloved actress, comedienne, and singer Kaye Ballard, who has agreed to come out of retirement for this performance.

“More gifted vocalists and popular Coachella Valley personalities are still being confirmed for this production, which promises to be a huge success,” exclaimed Yates. “We are excited to have such a talented line up for our sixth season, and I hope that having the Helene Galen Performing Arts Center stage filled with celebrities will be an inspiration to high school students planning acting or music careers.”

The benefit will be Coyote StageWorks’ first performance in its new home at the Helene Galen Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art theater at the recently opened Rancho Mirage High School. Tickets are $75 and $125 per person for the performance only; $250 per person ticket includes a VIP cast reception following the show. Artists are subject to change without notice.

Twice voted “Best Live Theater” by Desert Magazine in 2013 and 2014, Coyote StageWorks received fifteen Desert Star Awards from the Desert Theatre League in 2013, and was awarded twenty at this year’s gala on October 5, 2014.

The Coyote StageWorks 2015 season will also include performances of the most talked about comedy of the year, “Buyer & Cellar,” from March 27 through April 5, 2015. It was a huge coup for the young company to obtain rights to the hysterical show while it was still playing Off-Broadway.

The mission of Coyote StageWorks is to provide a forum for thought-provoking, entertaining, and culturally significant works in an environment that nurtures the creativity of the individual and the enrichment of the community.
