Goyette Scores Lone Coachella Valley Goal in OT Defeat to Bakersfield

The Coachella Valley Firebirds, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Seattle Kraken, fell to the Bakersfield Condors on Friday night in overtime by the final score of 2-1. David Goyette scored the only Firebirds goal while Victor Ostman made 24 saves in Coachella Valley’s loss that moves their record to 32-19-2-5. The overtime loss earned the Firebirds a point, putting them in sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division.

  • Following a penalty-filled but goalless first period, the Firebirds opened the scoring with 6:05 left in the second. Ville Ottavainen’s shot from the right circle was tipped by David Goyette for a 1-0 Coachella Valley lead. The goal was Goyette’s third of the season and the secondary assist belonged to Jagger Firkus.
  • 22 seconds into the third period, former Firebird Connor Carrick tied the game for the Condors with a wrist shot from the right point.

  • The game needed overtime to decide a winner and 24 seconds into the extra session, Drake Caggiula beat Victor Ostman to earn the extra point and win the game 2-1.
