With the release of their live EP Dust and Echoes, recorded at Pappy & Harriet’s in early June 2026, Firebug are garnering enthusiastic reviews of the 4-track offering from some of the most well-respected publications around. Working with three-time Grammy Award–winning producer David Bottrill (Tool, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Muse, The Smashing Pumpkins), the High Desert group are described as having a ‘desert noir aesthetic’ with that Joshua Tree tenacity.
Firebug will be performing for the first time at The Dune Room in downtown Indio this Saturday, July 18th providing support to Tender Misfit on her first headline tour. Also on the bill is Alt Pop EDM artist from the Mojave AEYDRA. Pre-sale tickets are $15 and can be purchased at duneroomindio.com. Doors at 7PM and show at 8PM. This is an ALL-AGES event.
Coachella Valley Weekly had the opportunity to speak to Firebug in anticipation of their Low Desert show.
CVW: What was the experience like releasing Dust and Echoes and how is it being received?
Firebug: “Capturing our headlining set at Pappy & Harriet’s allowed us to present our full band line up with all that psychedelic “desert noir” energy exactly as it sounded live inside those iconic walls! The response has been incredibly rewarding with recent reviews in Rock Culture Spill Magazine and an upcoming review in Spin Magazine. It makes us happy that people are really connecting with the live feel we managed to harness at this show.”
CVW: Tell us how the connection with David Bottrill began and what you learned.
Firebug: “The connection with David began after he heard a recent demo we had recorded. There was an immediate sense that he understood the sonic landscape we were trying to create—something expansive, atmospheric, and emotionally immersive. From that point on, working together felt like a natural extension of the music itself.
One of the most valuable things we took away from the experience was learning how powerful space can be. David has an incredible instinct for letting a song breathe, allowing tension to build naturally before everything opens up emotionally. That approach encouraged us to trust the quiet moments just as much as the louder ones, creating a dynamic where the vocals and the band’s cinematic wall of sound could have an even greater impact.
The finished recordings capture something we had been chasing for a long time, and we’re incredibly excited for everyone to hear them very soon.”
CVW: What did your collaboration with Bottrill do to expand Firebug’s sound?
Firebug: “Working with David gave us the opportunity to push our sound even further. He has an incredible instinct for dynamics, texture, and atmosphere, helping us amplify the cinematic qualities that were already there. The result feels bigger, deeper, and more immersive, while remaining completely authentic to who we are as a band.”
CVW: How have other genres or styles influenced your sound?
Firebug: “Our biggest influences come from the psychedelic blues rock of the ’60s and ’70s, along with elements of desert rock. We’ve always been drawn to music that’s textured, dynamic, and willing to take its time, allowing songs to evolve naturally rather than rushing to the destination.
Living and creating in the high desert has become another influence in its own right. There’s something about the openness of the landscape that encourages the music to breathe, naturally pulling it in a more cinematic direction while keeping those vintage influences at its heart. The result is a sound that feels both familiar and distinctly our own.”
CVW: How are you feeling about performing at The Dune Room in the Low Desert?
Firebug: “We are incredibly excited! The Dune Room is a fantastic new space for live music and culture in downtown Indio. The low desert has such a vibrant energy, and we can’t wait to perform there!”
CVW: Are you familiar with the music of Tender Misfit and Aeydra?
Firebug: “Absolutely. We’re really looking forward to sharing the bill with them. They are both fantastic, compelling rising acts, and bringing our different musical approaches together for the Stargirl Tour is going to make for a dynamic, incredible night of music.”
CVW: What are the immediate and long-term plans for Firebug?
Firebug: “In the immediate future, our focus is on getting these new songs out into the world—playing live, promoting the Dust and Echoes EP, and connecting with new audiences. Looking further ahead, we’re continuing to write and develop new material while planning our next studio recordings. We’re also expanding our reach through additional independent international distribution and exploring new synchronization opportunities for film, television, and other visual media.”
