Starting THIS Thursday you can bank on the spectacular spectacle of entertainment known as football every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Mondays of every week through the end of 2013. And thank God for Tuesday and Wednesday so we can process the information, changes, matchups and jump on the waiver wire for fantasy.
So let’s talk about the best places to get your football fix and more specifically where you can catch the action with me.
Thursday night come to Burgers and Beer in Rancho Mirage as I’m kicking off the NFL season in style with the valley’s best happy hour. Pitchers are $7.50, tacos and nachos are a couple bucks and my radio show “Buehler’s Day Off” will be broadcasting from 3-5 leading up to the season kickoff.
Friday nights head out to the local high schools. The schedule is available at mydesert.com and each Friday you can listen to the Cathedral City Auto Center High School Game of the Week on Team 1010 KXPS, or download the mobile app to catch it.
Saturdays for college fans is an all-day affair of marinating in pigskin awesome. So where to plant your stakes and spend 15 hours? How about the one place that is guaranteed to have the games, hospitality and some good times? The Tilted Kilt is the perfect place. Not only do they have a live radio show going on from 2-4, Tilted Sports Radio, that gives away prizes and interaction, they have the games (minus Pac-12 Network) and good food.
Every Sunday, I watch my Niners at home (don’t like people talking to me during my Niner games) and go out for the mornings or afternoons. I like Dickey O’Neil’s and am a fan of The Village Pub in Palm Springs. Both spots know how to treat football fans and have some delicious specials as well as great drink deals. The Pub even has a loyalty program, so if you go weekly, you’ll save even more and have a chance to win a TV at season’s end.
Every Monday, make your way to La Quinta, just off Washington and Highway 111 and join me at The Beerhunter. Billy, the general manager there, is a Cowboys fan, and there’s a remarkable Steelers contingent, Niners fan base and some of the best viewing available thanks to the biggest of the desert’s big screens in the middle of the pit. I may or may not run up and down the stairs of the pit depending on how my pick is faring. But it’s always fun to watch the games there, the beer is cold, the food is good and everyone is into the game, high fiving and enjoying themselves.
Football is about creating a family and for all those who watch with me, we have a great time, enjoy the game and always make lasting memories.
This is going to be a season to remember!! Here’s to the Niners winning the Super Bowl, the Seahawks having a 7-9 season and every fan making it through the season safely.
Julie Buehler hosts the Coachella Valley’s most popular sports talk radio show, “Buehler’s Day Off” every day from 3-6 on 1010 KXPS, the valley’s all sports station. She’s an avid gym rat, slightly sarcastic and more likely to recite Steve Young’s career passing stats than American Idol winners. Tune in M-F 3-6 pst at www.team1010.com or watch the show on Ustream.
