Getting lower back pain can be very frustrating, irritating, and, of course, discomforting. But what could be the reasons behind it?

  1. The number one cause of lower back pain is poor posture. A predominantly sedentary lifestyle doesn’t help it at all when you spend hours hunched over a desk and then lie on the couch getting back home. What can you do? Start doing regular few-minute stretches during the workday, prioritize maintaining a good posture, and work on strengthening your back muscles at home or at the gym.
  2. The second not apparent cause of lower back pain is weak core muscles. When they do not do their part in keeping your body straight, this falls into the back muscles. This can overstrain them and cause discomfort and pain. The solution is to strengthen your core through such exercises as planks, bridges, Russian twists, and other Ab exercises.
  3. Carrying around extra weight also strains the spine and back muscles and can cause pain. The only solution for this problem is to get your weight close to the recommended one for your height, age, and gender.
  4. Both not exercising and excessively exercising are harmful to your spine. If pain occurs after a workout, you should revise your routine. Maybe your exercise technique is incorrect, or the weights you are using are still too heavy for you.
  5. Sometimes, mental stress can manifest in physical symptoms such as lower back pain. If this is the case, I would advise practicing meditation, deep breathing, talking to a friend or psychologist, and ensuring you have a safe space to rest and sleep undisturbed at night. Remembering that everyone’s body is unique, so seeking advice from a healthcare professional or physical therapist if your lower back pain persists is essential.
