Performances take place March 21 through April 6
Green Room Theatre Company Coachella Valley (GRTCCV), now in its 16th successful season, brings a professional production of Black Butterfly, Jaguar Girl, Piñata Woman, and Other Superhero Girls, Like Me to the stage. The production is a story of resilience and identity, with performances in Indio and Palm Desert from March 21 through April 6.
Told through a bilingual assemblage of short scenes and poetry, Black Butterfly shines a light on the lives of four teen girls of various ages growing up in the poor urban suburbs of East Los Angeles. Parents won’t speak English; girls in magazines don’t look like the girl in the mirror; boys are not always searching for the right kind of relationship. The story takes a sad, funny and sometimes painful look at being an adolescent.
This award-winning play by Luis Alfaro is directed by David Catanzarite and Rocio Muñoz. The actresses performing as the teenage girls are Chantalle Acevedo, Daisy Posadas, Rocio Muñoz, and Alicia Wilson.
