In 2009, California’s own, Joey Chavez, an artist by nature, and by education, saw an opportunity in the world of tattooing in Southern California for a mobile service. After arduous interactions with local jurisdictions, and other tattoo businesses, Joey’s dream was eventually realized when he was given a full license – and the first of its kind, to operate a mobile tattoo company within Southern California.
Along with the assistance of his father, Joey, and his wife, took a giant leap of faith. They put their Christian faith in God, and utilized savings to purchase a truck large enough to host an entire tattoo studio (on wheels). The facility was of course inspected by the state jurisdictions to ensure correct health and safety protocols were adhered to. From there, the Body Art Bus was born.
Alongside pioneering this convenient service that allows prospect tattoo enthusiasts the opportunity to have a tattoo artist come to you, Joey became president of one of the most reputable tattoo companies in the state. How apropos that they are named, The Trusted Tattoo Company.
Headquartered in artsy Oceanside California, Joey oversees a vast team of highly educated and talented artists on a weekly basis, as well as tattooing clients himself. In a recent interview conducted by me on my podcast, Joey told me: “In the modern age, artists don’t have the prospect of being commissioned by a prince or nobleman, and being bankrolled by them for creating art for the rest of their lives. Tattooing is a great way for modern-day artists to practice their talent and earn a living from it. That is why I am so passionate about wanting to create platforms for others.”
The Body Art Bus and Trusted Tattoo Company were not the be all and end all for Joey’s artistic and entrepreneurial endeavors. Three years ago, Joey once again felt inspired by God to create yet another platform for tattoo artists to showcase and plow their trade. The realization, and after taking yet another giant leap of faith, was the first annual Ink Con Convention at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario California. Guests, tattoo artists, and celebrities flocked to the event during which tattoos were crafted, information was shared, and guests enjoyed special guest talks on stage.
This year marked the second annual Ink Con Convention, again at the Ontario Convention Center. The turnout over the three-day weekend exceeded 10,000 guests – not including tattoo artists, and special guests. Joey was on-site to oversee festivities, and even showcased yet another of his talents when he acted as the events M.C. (master of ceremonies).
None of us can foresee the future, only God knows that. For tomorrow is not guaranteed. However, we can hope that Ink Con 2025, starring Joey Chavez, The Body Art Bus, The Trusted Tattoo Company, and the plethora of other talented artists and guests will enjoy an even larger experience next year.
