Challenge Yourself on October 12

By Karen Creasy

With less than a month until the Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge, many are training to participate in this very fun, unique and challenging Reverse Mini-Triathlon on October 12. This triathlon is reverse because it starts with the run and ends with the swim. It is mini because the distances are shorter than a standard triathlon. It is fun and unique because the entire family can participate! The event will start with a 5K run, continue with a 10 mile bike ride, and finish with a 300 meter swim in the Palm Desert Aquatic Center swimming pool.

Are you ready for that challenge? If not maybe you would rather participate in the Prime Time 5K run/walk event. A 5K is just a bit more than 3 miles and this 5K is a part of the Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge as well. It will be both athlete and family friendly beginning and ending in Civic Center Park.

Are you still unsure? Are you questioning if you’re able to tackle either of those events? Well don’t worry there is something for everyone! Along with the Reverse Mini-triathlon and the 5K run/walk there will be a 1st Bank 1K color run with enough color to make everyone smile. A 1K is under one mile and this event promises to be fun for the entire family!

Are you convinced yet? Well, there’s more. Following the finish of the Reverse Mini-Triathlon, the morning continues with a Health and Wellness Fair offering vendor and information booths, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

Registration fees are: Reverse Mini-Triathlon $75 through Oct. 11 and $90 on race day; 5K Run/Walk $35 through Oct.11 and $40 on race day; 1K Color Run is $10. Start times are staggered with the Reverse Mini-Triathlon starting at 7 a.m.; the 5K Run/Walk at 7:15 a.m.; and the 1K Color Run at 9 a.m.

The Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge is a fundraiser that benefits the Family YMCA of the Desert youth programs.
