John Doe is returning to the high desert for a highly anticipated solo set at The Joshua Tree Retreat Center on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

John is best known, along with his musical soulmate, Exene Cervenka for fronting the seminal Los Angeles Punk band X. The four-piece, which includes guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer DJ Bonebrake, formed nearly half a century ago. In between X commitments, John has also managed to release a clutch of critically acclaimed solo records and carved out an intriguing acting career. He’s also authored a pair of books that defined the L.A. music scene: Under The Big Black Sun and More Fun In The New World.

His most recent solo effort, 2022’s “Fables In A Foreign Land, was a stripped-down and Rootsy, a sharp synthesis of Country, Rock, Blues and Folk, attributed to The John Doe Folk Trio. It garnered rave reviews, and word is, he will release a new album sometime this year. For The Joshua Tree set, John will be going it alone for a very rare solo show. Opening for John is local Desert legend Sean Wheeler and Billy Pitman.
