Providing Support to Warchild Featuring Scott Pryor

Tickets: duneroomindio.com

Just a tad of self-disclosure, Lorna Adams shot out of a cannon in my backyard late last year during a jam session. I had never met her before and only had heard of her through our mutual friend and music mogul David Williams. What I heard that night would be bolstered by her first headline show at The Dune Room earlier this year. The woman has pipes. You can hear and see for yourself on Wednesday, April 8th as she provides support for Warchild featuring Scott Pryor at The Dune Room in a Pre-Coachella spectacular. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $15 at the door. Free entry to all veterans and active-duty service members. The local non-profit Mission Veteran will be honored.

As I shared before, Lorna’s first show ever was at The Dune Room in February. Looking back, Lorna learned a great deal very quickly. “My performance at The Dune Room was not just a great turnout but also very heartfelt. Not only was this a milestone for me in my music career but everyone who was in the audience that night was a supporter of my transformation that started about two years ago. I also learned not to wear a skirt on stage, haha! So, I will be wearing pants from now on to allow for more movement.”

Lorna has had the opportunity to work with one of the best producers and musicians in the business, Mr. David Williams of Melrose Recording Studios. Lorna tells us how they met and what’s it like having him in her band. “Having David Williams in my personal and professional life is nothing short of a major blessing. He encourages me often when I feel like life is getting the best of me and also pushes this band to have top quality sound. I met David for the first time while looking for a recording studio on Groupon of all places. I walked in without studio experience with my dad, my book of songs and a dream. As we kept recording over time, he took me under his wing and became a mentor to this project.”

Lorna also plays the ukelele. “I only play one instrument, the ukulele. I was living a more spontaneous life seven years ago and the instrument was suggested to me since my hands were small. I like to say it’s the party instrument because it’s so easy to take anywhere.”

Lorna’s vocals are power with grace. It’s natural talent along hard work and dedication. “I do feel I have natural talent vocally but the hard work for me is actually the memorization process. After so many years of mind-altering experiences I have a harder time keeping the information intact. There is some musical background in my family.”

Lorna is not new to the desert music scene. “I was raised in the desert. I am a Palm Desert and La Quinta hybrid. I graduated from La Quinta High School where I experienced my first choir in my senior year. I entered the local music scene about two years ago starting with open mics. I take a lot of pride in my hometown so the positives would be knowing lots of people in the community, and the challenges would also be knowing lots of people in the community. I think we have a large supportive network in the desert, however, in a small town, people can be quick to talk and slow to understand. Thankfully, music has the ability to unite, so I see growth on the horizon.”

Lorna describes her songs and sounds to the layperson. “Our music is American. Written for the common person to speak about relatable topics using realism and everyday vocabulary. We are Rock ‘n‘ Roll and Country! I don’t know anything more American than that. We are NOT political, but the songs express ideas of living life with a better purpose and pushing through hard times.”

Lorna is very open on social media about her life experiences. She is remarkably vulnerable with her followers. “I have been speaking out more recently about my life. If I had any words of wisdom after my long journey, I would say, ‘Your priorities in life will guide your steps and if you’re on the right track the blessings will follow’.”

Your next show is Wednesday, April 8th at The Dune Room opening for WARCHILD. What can attendees expect from your 2nd show ever. “I’m really excited for this next show! The band is locked-in and ready to go! We also will be debuting a new song to open the show titled, Badass. The song is about not being afraid to stand out and not being ashamed of where you came from, because in life, our scars are really just beauty marks.”

On the horizon for Lorna Adams and band are a unique merchandise boutique at their shows and online as well as reaching out to venues outside the desert.

Lorna has some words of thankfulness for her supporters; “I would like to thank my family and friends as well as the band and The Dune Room for making this all possible. I would also like to thank Coachella Valley Weekly for the wonderful opportunity to engage with my audience. Without my community supporting me there would be no chance for me to achieve my dreams. Anyone who lives here locally needs to pat themselves on the back for being part of a community that uplifts those who have aspirations in the arts. Our album is out on all streaming platforms. Look for House in the Desert by Lorna Adams.”
