Desert Ensemble Theatre (DET) will present Meteor Shower, a surreal comedy where dinner and stargazing spiral into cosmic absurdity in classic Steve Martin fashion, at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, March 6–15.
Allison Adato of Entertainment Weekly called Meteor Shower “a very funny play — keening-like-a-howler-monkey funny… the premise is polished to sparkling.”

In Martin’s singular universe, Corky and Norm are thrilled to host Gerald and Laura at their home in the valley outside Los Angeles to witness a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower. But as the stars come out and the conversation flows, it becomes clear that Gerald and Laura may not be all that they appear to be. Over the course of a wildly unpredictable, starlit dinner party, the unexpected repeatedly occurs. Using his trademark absurdist humor, Martin bends time and reality into a surprising and unforgettably funny theatrical experience.
Film and television veteran David Youse, seen in last year’s DET runaway hit God of Carnage, leads a high-wattage cast of DET favorites including Lizzie Sosa (God of Carnage, The Beebo Brinker Chronicles, Singing with the Desert Stars), Theresa Jewett (Esperanza, Showstoppers), and—making his DET debut—Skylar Gaines (Falsettos, Eureka Day – Dezart Performs). Also making his DET debut is director Keith Hoffman, a veteran of New York and Los Angeles theatre.

Meteor Shower runs Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sundays 2pm, March 6–15, at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, 2300 E. Baristo Road, Palm Springs. Tickets are $40 and available at www.desertensembletheatre.org or by calling (760) 565-2476.
