A Memorable Exploration of Love, Family and Identity
July 11–20, 2025
Palm Canyon Theatre proudly presents Falsettos, the Tony Award-winning musical by William Finn and James Lapine, running July 11–20, 2025. A sharply funny and emotionally resonant musical, Falsettos follows the lives of a Jewish family, living in New York City in the 1980s as they navigate love, responsibility and the impact of the AIDS crisis.
The story follows Marvin (Luke Rainey), a man who leaves his wife and son to be with his male lover, Whizzer (Anthony Nannini), while striving to keep his family united. Trina (Georgia Smith), Marvin’s neurotic but loving ex-wife, brings warmth and humor to the fractured family dynamic. Mendel (Jonathan Brett), their therapist, becomes increasingly entangled in their personal lives—both professionally and romantically. Meanwhile, Marvin and Trina’s son, Jason (Desmond McLeod), is navigating where he fits in all of this as he prepares for his culturally important coming-of-age bar mitzvah. Rounding out the ensemble of this production are Cordelia (Nicole Kennedy), a quirky and big-hearted caterer, and Dr. Charlotte (Jana Giboney), a wise and compassionate physician who provides guidance and strength as the characters face life’s unexpected turns.
The production team collaborates seamlessly to capture both the humor and heart of this deeply human story. David Brooks is the show’s director, with choreography by Se Layne. Chuck Peery is the show’s music director. Scenic and lighting designs are by J.W. Layne, with projections by Nick Edwards and props by Jackson Enzler. Costume designs are by Derik Shopinski.
