Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning masterwork of dreams and desire is coming to Palm Springs
March 13–April 5, 2026
Palm Canyon Theatre presents Sunset Boulevard, the evocative musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, running March 13–April 5, 2026. Based on the Academy Award-winning film by Billy Wilder, Sunset Boulevard explores the dark underside of Hollywood glamour and the devastating cost of living for the spotlight.
The story centers on faded silent-screen legend Norma Desmond (Se Layne), who clings to the illusion that her glory days are far from over. When struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis (Christian Quevedo), fleeing debt collectors, stumbles into her reclusive world, he is drawn into her fantasy of a triumphant return to the silver screen. Persuaded to help shape her self-proclaimed “masterpiece,” Joe becomes seduced by Norma’s wealth and her desperate ambition, finding himself trapped in an increasingly claustrophobic existence. As their volatile relationship deepens, ambition, obsession, and denial collide—especially when Joe falls for another woman, Betty Schaefer (Tara Howard), and dares to imagine escape. Featuring iconic songs including “With One Look,” “As If We Never Said Goodbye,” and the haunting title number, “Sunset Boulevard” captures the glamour and darkness of Hollywood’s golden age.
The creative team bringing this iconic musical to life includes direction, choreography and costumes by Derik Shopinski and music direction by Steven Smith. Scenic and lighting design are by J.W. Layne, with projection design by Nick Edwards. Additional cast featured include Mark Almy as Max von Mayerling, Norma’s butler and manager; Stephen Giboney as Artie Green; Darin MacLoed as Cecil B. De Mille, plus a talented ensemble. Together, cast and crew create a visually striking production with emotional depth.
