The Certified Farmers’ Markets will be celebrating Real Food Week in the Coachella Valley from February 5th through the 9th. Real Food Week is a celebration of healthy foods that are locally sourced and produced in ecologically sound and humane ways.
At the Farmers’ Markets in Palm Desert on Wednesday, Palm Springs on Saturday and La Quinta on Sunday will be Joanne Neft and Laura Kenny, authors of Placer County Real Food and The Art of Real Food. All week they will be on hand for cooking demonstrations and talks about ways to cook healthy meals made from locally-farmed seasonal ingredients every day of the year
On Friday night, February 7th, The Art of Real Food – A Farm To Fork Evening will bring together local residents for an evening of food, conversation and fun. Sponsored by the Certified Farmers’ Markets, ShareKitchen, local farmers and the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the evening will include local artisan foods prepared by local chefs with beer and organic wines available. Included will be a special Farm to Fork presentation by Joanne Neft and Laura Kenny.
Seating is limited with the event held at ShareKitchen which is located at 68805 E. Palm Canyon in Cathedral City. The evening starts at 6pm with tickets ($50 each) available at all Certified Farmers’ Market locations.
On Saturday morning during the Certified Farmer’s Market will be a free screening of the film, More Than Honey at the adjacent Camelot Theatres. More Than Honey examines the global phenomenon of bees disappearing in record number from the face of the planet. This film is part of the Palm Springs 2014 Sustainable Saturday Free Film Series, sponsored by the Palm Springs Office of Sustainability.
