If you’ve lived through a few summers in the desert, you know as the temperatures go up, the amount of noise around the valley goes down. On Friday June 17, things are going to get real quiet at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club as ISTHISIT presents “Silence,” a choose-your-own-DJ dance party.
Have you ever been on the dance floor and wished you could change the song the DJ was playing? Silence will give you control of the music by offering three Djs playing different music at the same time to the same dance floor. All guests receive a pair of wireless head phones that have red, blue and green lights. The lights correspond to the different DJs playing different music on each stage. With a flip of a button you can go from Deep House and New Disco to Rare Groove and Trip Hop. If its silence you want, just take off your headphones, the only thing you’ll hear will be feet shuffling across the dance floor.
The styles of music played will be as varied the DJs themselves. Local DJ Alex Harrington will be playing deep house and new disco. Beatnick from San Diego will be playing rare groove and trip hop, while Dash Eye also from San Diego, will mix in some roots reggae and world beat.
What goes better with music besides your favorite beverage? How about live art by local artist Warzecha. The Cathedral City resident will entertain dancers with his live air brush paintings. The evening will also feature a “Before I die” wall (Permission was granted by the global art project.) Guest will be encouraged to write on the wall in chalk what they would like to do before they die.
ISTHISIT is an electrifying collaboration between founders Nero Akpowowo and Trevor “Guy Worden” who’s exclusive soirées and artistic performances will be the talk of desert. The name of the company originates from a 2001 Strokes album with the same title. This inaugural event for the duo starts at 10pm and goes till 3am at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs.
