All Happening This Week at The World Famous Palm Canyon Road House
By Lisa Morgan
One of the tastiest, most fun and truly dedicated places consistently supporting live music here in the desert is Palm Canyon Road House. From the long time running jam session every Sunday to hiring some of the desert’s best local talent, the stage is always set and ready to go. This week is ramping up to be pretty special at the Road House as it gets ready to celebrate owner, Greg’s birthday.
Starting this Saturday, The Woodys, a Palm Springs based instrumental trio headed up by Brian Mauer will be bringing the Surf Party to town. This band has been playing all over Southern California for 25 years now in one configuration of another. Popular for bringing the best of the early 60’s surf instrumental classics from bands like the Ventures, The Cramps, Link Wray and Dick Dale, the band will perform some of its originals. If you dig the music from the movie Pulp Fiction, you will love this band. Give them a listen on Reverbnation at www.reverbnation.com/thewoodys9
Every Tuesday night, Jimmy Heil hosts an open mic. They call it “Jam with Jimmy” and it starts at 7 pm. Wednesday nights brings our local Blues savant, Kal David, an artist many call “Mr. Blues”. This free show stars at 7pm. David has been making music for almost 50 years. He and his wife Lauri Bono are local treasures.
Saturday, September 19th, Palm Canyon Road House will be celebrating owner Greg’s birthday in true PCRH style with, you guessed it, more live music. Roger and the Road House Rebels will be rocking the bar and honoring the man, who for the last 8 years of ownership, has brought some of the best live music to the Palm Canyon strip (and the food’s damn good too). Show will start at 9pm and if things are true to form you’ll want to get there early if you want to find a seat.
Palm Canyon Road House is located at 535 South Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA (760) 327-4080. Follow them on FB at www.facebook.com/palmcanyon.roadhouse
