Annual YMCA Golf Tournament Raises Funds to Serve Valley Children
You know you love to tee it high and let it fly, so why not help the children of the Coachella Valley at the same time? The Family YMCA of the Desert will host its annual Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the J.W. Marriott Desert Springs, located at 74855 Country Club Drive in Palm Desert. The tournament features a shotgun start at 12:30pm (registration opens at 11:30am), and the 18 hole scrambled will be followed by a terrific Awards After-Party at Costas! The Awards ceremony, at the always fun dance venue, offers up a delicious array of hearty post-round hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar. Trophies and prizes will be handed out to the winning foursome, along with the prizes from on the course contests. Baseball great Steve Garvey will be on hand to greet fans and support the Family YMCA of the Desert.
“This is always one of our most enjoyable and fun events,” says Rob Ballew, Executive Director of the Family YMCA of the Desert. “Our team works hard to make sure the round is fun and the After Party even more so. We have a beverage cart to keep players hydrated and happy, contests and hole-in-one prizes, but the camaraderie is what keeps players coming back to this tourney each year.”
The J.W. Marriott Desert Springs is one of the Valley’s premier golf destinations, with two stunning Championship courses, so the golf is always magnificent. Enhancing the day: knowing that your $150 entry fee goes to support Family YMCA of the Desert programs that reach 3,500 PER DAY in the Coachella Valley. The Family YMCA of the Desert offers before and after school programs in over 40 sites throughout the Valley, reaching out to families in need to make sure kids are safe, have a place to do homework, socialize, exercise, and build character. To help, sponsorship opportunities are also available. From title sponsorship, to corporate, gift-bag and tee sponsors (and more) your donation provides needed funds, and garners added recognition for your organization.
“Last year’s event was terrific, and I’m excited about this year’s tournament, because it’s about so much more than golf,” says Steve Garvey, former Dodger baseball stand-out. You can join the fun, too. The entry fee is only $150 per player, and if you’re a non-golfer, come to our famous Awards After-Party at Costa’s for only $45! If you would like to play, attend, or donate at a sponsorship level, contact Terri Bona, Director of Development at the Family YMCA of the Desert by calling 760-341-8468, or emailing tbona@desertymca.org.
