Fifty years after the Beatles discovered America they’re back—along with Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber and still more British superstars—as the California Desert Chorale presents THE BOYS FROM BRITAIN this month in the desert.

The Spring musical season bursts into bloom as the Valley’s premiere mixed-voice choral ensemble completes its twentieth year with performances on March 16 and 23. Concerts are at the Indian Wells Theater on the Cook Street campus of Cal State San Bernardino-Palm Desert. Both performances are at 3 p.m.

The line-up of glorious music includes a medley of 12 Beatles classics, plus superb arrangements of “Eleanor Rigby” and “Something”… Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” from “Requiem,” “Unexpected Song,” “Let Us Love in Peace,” and a medley of his terrific tunes… plus Elton John’s “Your Song,” “Written In The Stars,” and from “The Lion King,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”

Considering that the original British musical invasion occurred long ago, the Chorale will also present George Frederic Handel’s “Zadok the Priest,” Henry Purcell’s “Soul of the World” and “Evening Hymn,” plus Charles Villiers Stanford’s “The Bluebird.”

The California Desert Chorale is a 70-voice ensemble led by Artistic Director Tim Bruneau. As in previous years, this distinguished musical group will be supported by an orchestra and the Chorale’s Principal Accompanist Dr. Denis Moreen. Audience favorite Delatour Zimmer—herself a British import—returns to the CDC stage for superb soprano solos.

Diversity is a major feature for the Chorale. CDC is a hearty mix of professional and amateur singers, male and female, straight and gay, all religions and races, as young as 20 and as mature as 85. Members are auditioned and come to the ensemble with extensive choral experience. Among the singers are interns selected from the outstanding singer-musicians at College of the Desert.

The Chorale exists to bring joy to singers and audiences alike by providing a wide variety of choral and other inspiring vocal musical performances designed to entertain, educate and enrich the diverse audiences of Southern California’s desert communities. A cadre of loyal listeners will be on hand as the Chorale pursues its goal of singing great music well.
