Insurance adjusters trying to rush you to a quick, lowball settlement; A flood of forms from doctors, lawyers and insurance companies; Deciding if you need a lawyer, as not all cases require an attorney, and it’s hard to learn which one to hire.
All lawyers say the same thing in their TV/Billboard advertising, claiming to be the best. They shout “slogans and fancy phone numbers” and tout the Deny and Delay tactics of insurance companies. However, they don’t take the time to explain what you have to prove to settle with an insurance company. They also don’t admit they are NOT local, and just advertise in the CV.
When trying to select a lawyer, which attorney rating websites are the most reliable and respected by insurance companies and defense lawyers. Did your attorney refer you to “his/her doctor?” Were you advised of possible Sub Rosa Investigations by the insurance company, where a private investigator watches and films you playing sports, carrying groceries, lifting trash cans etc.
Ever since your accident you have probably been bombarded with advice from your next-door neighbors, friends, family, TV/Billboard Ads. They all suggest their “guy” will settle the case fast and for lots of money. Will these lawyers have time to answer your questions: How is my case going? How much is my case worth? When will my case settle? My bills are going into collection and my credit will be ruined, what can you do? A non-mill/ non-high-volume lawyer will help with that.
Most clients ask “why are you a better lawyer” than X who advertises on TV, Billboards, Papers etc. After you learn how to select a lawyer, you will want to know what doctors to consult. If you retain a “mill lawyer” who signs up hundreds of cases a month, the insurance company will see all victims going to the same doctor by using their computers.
If/when you go to trial, the defense will ask the doctor, how many cases s/he receives a month from this lawyer. Of course, it will look phony, and many jurors will punish you.
Lawyers can’t tell you the value of your case on Day 1. You have to wait until treatment has concluded to determine the severity of the accident. In addition, on day one, the lawyer doesn’t know the past medical history and whether there are any arguments as to liability. Are advertising lawyers guessing when they tell you the value of your case on day one …or lying!
You are an individual and your injuries are likewise. Were you treated for 1 month or a year? Did you see a Chiro or an Ortho or Neuro for your problems? Is your doc well credentialed? Does s/he have a reputation of only handling accident cases for this lawyer?
An accident victim deserves to be fairly compensated. However, that doesn’t mean they hit the lottery. For answers to these and other questions …call me.
