DID YOU KNOW THAT LAWYERS LIE?
Sometimes lawyers lie to get the best results possible from the DA or adjusters, and sometimes it’s their advertising where they claim to be the BEST LAWYER. Though I have received over 30 Top Lawyer awards, I am by no means the Top Lawyer in California, as suggested by my recent AI Legal Awards by Acquisition International, as Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year 2024, California. Who knows what it means? It probably means that some think we do a competent job, for a certain area of law.
DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF LAWYERS?
Which one do you need? Do you need the best trial lawyer…or the lawyer with the connections and experience to get the best result possible without going to trial and wasting a lot of your money doing so. Thus, it comes down to the best trial lawyer, who jurors will love …or the experienced “connected” lawyer who knows the filing deputy DA or Adjusters who control the purse strings…and who the jury also loves?

DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN CHANGE LAWYERS AT ANY TIME?
Therefore, if your lawyer is not returning your calls, and providing good service, FIRE him/her … asap. It won’t cost you a dime, as the lawyers will split the legal fee. It is more challenging with a criminal case.
DID YOU KNOW ADVERTISING LAWYERS AREN’T ALL BAD… THEY ARE JUST BAD FOR YOU?
It’s not a good idea to get matching tattoos on a first date or Drink/Drive and get a DUI or PI and call a non-local, 1-800, TV/Billboard advertising lawyer. Some advertise with slogans/jingles: my lawyer got me X, just call X, call for the value of your case and we will fight for you, etc. Many advertising lawyers use catchy phrases, have the same numbers, or promise to tell you the case value on day one. Common sense suggests there is no way of knowing, liability, all your injuries, current and future loss of earnings, or when you will heal?
DID YOU KNOW SOME TV/BILLBOARD LAWYERS ARE DEAD OR NO LONGER PRACTICING?
Some whose names are on billboards, are dead (Larry Parker), or no longer in practice like Jacoby and Meyers …with one deceased and the other basically retired. Traditionally TV/BILLBOARD lawyers have a lot of clients, and obviously can NOT handle everyone. Unless yours is worth $1Million, the chances are you will not be dealing with the named lawyer. Instead, you will see a younger, less experienced attorney, or a non-licensed assistant. Your case may even be sold to another firm.
Everyone wants the best lawyer but how do you find a good/best lawyer? Do you call one spending $100,000/mo advertising, or a Top Lawyer with the highest confidential 5 Star peer reviews? What about the lawyer who settles a case for $1,000,000? Is s/he good…or was the case worth $1,500,000?
Determining which lawyer is good can be confusing. When I first started practicing, advertising was illegal. I built a 30-person Beverly Hills firm before moving to the desert 31 years ago. A lawyer either had “good or bad stuff”, and clients could tell the difference by the attorney’s awards and verdicts. As a young lawyer I advertised and would bring in up to 200 new cases a month. Needless to say, I didn’t know most of the clients, though I tried to meet every new case that came in. Today I am selective and only accept a handful of cases at a time…and personally answer calls. If I don’t accept the case, I direct it to a good lawyer for that specific case.
You wouldn’t call an advertising brain surgeon, would you? Why would it be different when you need a lawyer?
