This year, tamale enthusiasts from across the region will gather to sample delicious creations and cheer on vendors competing for the coveted title of “Best Tamale” in three categories: Traditional, Vegetarian, and Sweet. Whether you’re a tamale aficionado or a first-time visitor, the festival offers a chance to savor the culinary traditions of the Coachella Valley.

Headliners and Highlights

The festival will feature live entertainment, including luchadores, mariachi performances, folklorico dancers, and magic shows. There will also be a free ice-skating rink, carnival rides, and plenty of tamales and micheladas to enjoy.

Don’t miss the festival headliners:

  • Saturday, December 7: Anything for Salinas (Selena Tribute Band), 5:00–6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 8: Las Tias, 5:00–6:30 p.m.

A Beloved Tradition Returns to Its Roots

“The Indio International Tamale Festival is a cherished tradition that has grown in size and reputation over the past three decades,” said Former Mayor Lupe Ramos Amith. “We’re excited to bring back the focus on tamales—the heart of the event—while continuing to celebrate the rich diversity and culture of our community. The festival not only showcases the culinary talents of our region but also fosters a sense of togetherness that is uniquely Indio.”

Free Admission, Free Parking, and Endless Entertainment

Pickering Events, the team behind the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival presented by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, has partnered with the City of Indio to enhance this year’s festivities.

“The Indio International Tamale Festival separates itself from other large events in the valley by offering free admission, free parking, and free entertainment,” said Chris Pickering, CEO of Pickering Events. “We’ve listened to community members and festival business partners about what they love and what they’d like to see added. This year’s event returns to its roots, centering on Comida, Cultura, y Comunidad.”
