Coachella Valley Falls to Eagles, 6-4

The Coachella Valley Firebirds, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Seattle Kraken, fell to the Colorado Eagles on Saturday night at Blue Arena by the final score 6-4. The two teams will rematch tomorrow in Colorado at 2:05pm PT.

QUICK NOTES

  • Colorado opened the scoring 4:33 into the first period on a redirection from Calle Rosen.
  • The Firebirds responded 12 seconds later on a goal from Luke Henman. Henman ripped a shot through Adam Scheel for his fourth of the season with the lone assist belonging to David Goyette.
  • Coachella Valley took their first lead of the game on a shot from the blueline from Ty Nelson. The rookie’s shot found the back of the net through traffic in front of the Eagles net for his second goal of the season. The Firebirds added to their lead with a goal from Logan Morrison just 16 seconds later. Daniel Sprong and Lleyton Roed each earned assists on Morrison’s eighth goal of the year at 11:20.
  • Jacob MacDonald pulled Colorado within one on a powerplay goal and Oskar Olausson tied the game for the Eagles on a strike coming with just one second left in the first period.
  • The Eagles netted the lone goal of the second period as Maros Jedlicka beat Ales Stezka at 12:13.
  • Tye Felhaber extended the Eagles’ lead to 5-3 at 4:47 of the third period on a redirection in front of Stezka.
  • Ryan Winterton netted his 11thgoal of the season as the Firebirds went 6-on-5 inside the game’s closing minutes to make it 5-4, but an empty net goal from Eagles’ forward Chris Wagner sealed a 6-4 loss.
  • Coachella Valley falls to 20-13-1-4 on the season.
  • The Firebirds’ finished the game 2-for-3 on the penalty kill and 0-for-4 on the powerplay.
  • Goaltender Ales Stezka made 13 saves on 18 shots.
  • Coachella Valley outshot Colorado 24-19.

The Firebirds continue their four-game road trip tomorrow afternoon with a rematch against the Colorado Eagles. Puck drop is set for 2:05pm PT.
