Life has a way of pulling the rug out from under us, doesn’t it? Grief, unexpected change, toxic relationships, or even losing faith in ourselves—these are the trenches where life’s battles are fought. And if you’ve found yourself stuck in survival mode, feeling small, or unsure of the next step, let me tell you this: You are not alone, and you do not have to stay here.

I’ve been there—facing loss, fear, addiction, and those dark nights where the weight of it all felt unbearable. But here’s the truth: No matter how deep the hole, there’s always a way out. And not just out, but upward—to a life that’s bigger, more fulfilling, and rooted in your own strength.

Here are five powerful daily tactics to help you climb out of survival mode and start to rebuild your life.

  1. Start Each Day with a Small-Win

When you feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges, big goals can feel impossible. Instead, focus on one small win every morning. This could be as simple as making your bed, writing down one thing you’re grateful for, or even stepping outside to feel the sun on your face.

Why it works: This approach builds momentum and reminds you that you’re capable of action. Each small success becomes a building block, shifting your mindset from “I can’t” to “I did.”

  1. Write Your Own Script

One of the hardest truths to face is how much of our lives we’ve lived for others—partners, bosses, family, or pressures of society and friends. Today, decide what you want. Take ten minutes to write down a vision for your future self. Keep it simple. Don’t filter it for what you think you should do or base it on others’ opinions. What does a day in your ideal life look like?

Why it works: When you put your vision on paper, you’re reclaiming your life. This clarity becomes your roadmap, helping you say “no” to what doesn’t align and “yes” to opportunities waiting for you to bring you closer to the life you want.

  1. Set Boundaries Like Your Life Depends on It—Because It Does

As women we tend to give our power to others, staying in relationships or situations that drain our energy and self-worth. Today, practice one act of boundary-setting. Say “no” (and mean it) to something you don’t have the bandwidth for. Speak up when something doesn’t feel right. Protect your peace of mind like it’s your most precious asset—because it is.

Why it works: Boundaries aren’t walls; they’re invitations for respect. Starting with self respect! When you set and uphold them, you’re teaching yourself—and others—that you matter!

  1. Shift from Faithless to Fearless Action

When you’re stuck, it’s easy to lose faith—in God, the universe, or yourself. And while faith is powerful, action is what builds it back. Take one brave step every day, even if it’s small. Call that therapist. Apply for that job. Have that tough conversation. Have a healthy meal. Take a walk.

Why it works: Fearless action will show you that, despite how you feel, you’re capable, even when you don’t feel ready. With every step forward, you rebuild trust in yourself!

  1. Find Your Anchor in Gratitude

Gratitude might feel like the last thing you can muster when life is hard, but it’s a powerful antidote to despair. Each morning, write down three things you’re grateful for—big or small. It could be the roof over your head, the kindness of a stranger, or simply surviving another day. Continue to do this every day. Start a gratitude jar. Put each day in the jar. Take them out and read them when you might feel down or need to be uplifted. You will soon realize that you have a lot to be grateful for and it will become a way of living for you.

Why it works: Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s missing to what’s present. It reminds you of the abundance already in your life, creating space for hope and possibility. It reminds you to be grateful every day.
