Featuring Kirk Geiger of “Sordid Lives”

The Indio Performing Arts Center is proud to be presenting the multiple-award winning play, “Marvin’s Room,” March 21- April 6, 2014.

“Marvin’s Room” is a hilarious and heart-warming comedy about a woman who finds out she is dying of leukemia and is forced to re-connect with her estranged family. The New York Times said “…one of the funniest plays of the year as well as one of the wisest and most moving. When the American theater gains a new voice this original, this unexpected, you really must hear it for yourself.” Unfortunately, the playwright, Scott McPherson, died of AIDS in 1992, so “Marvin’s Room” remains his only produced work.

Director Jeanette Knight says, “We have assembled some of the most talented actors in the Coachella Valley for this production, which is very close to my heart. I first directed the show in Reno, Nevada in 1994, and found it helped me deal with my mother’s recent passing. Audiences seem to connect with the main idea of the play, which is that only love– graceful, direct and honest– holds the world together.”

The cast includes desert favorites Denise Strand, Tiffani LoBue, Valerie “VJ” Hume, Domingo Winstead, Julian Jacobo, Diego Valdez, Jeannie Reichert-Jorgensen, and DTL Lifetime Achievement Award winner Louise Tonti. Kirk Geiger, who originated the role of “Ty” in both the stage and film versions of the classic cult comedy “Sordid Lives,” will be playing “Dr. Wally.”

Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7PM, and Sunday afternoons at 2PM and will take place at the theatre, which is located at 45-175 Fargo Street in Indio. Seats can be selected and tickets can be purchased for $19-$26 now at the IPAC website, www.indioperformingartscenter.org.
