“Palm Desert on Parade – Through the Decades” 2014 Theme
Families and friends, visitors and residents alike, come on out to the desert’s most popular shopping district, El Paseo, for another beautiful Palm Desert day as we watch history come to life before our eyes, the 50th annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade Sunday, October 26.
“This year is the biggest to date,” said Mike Hardin, owner of the Lock Shop and Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade Chairman for the fourth year in a row. “This is a historic year for the parade, and we value the support from the City of Palm Desert, the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce as Title Sponsors and the Auen Foundation as Presenting Sponsor. This is the community’s golden anniversary parade!”
To celebrate 50 years of this desert tradition, many all-day festivities are planned including a Palm Desert Rotary Pancake Breakfast at 8am, an interactive Kid’s play Zone on Larkspur, a Cart Show, Food Vendors, Golf Booths and more! Parade organizers and fans, alike, were thrilled with the announcement that members of the movie-star famous USC Trojan Marching Band and Traveler will entertain thousands of parade-goers along the El Paseo corridor as well.
“This is set to be the best Golf Cart Parade yet,” said Hardin. “The local Trojan Club of the Desert, with many USC alumni and supporters, rallied to bring part of the ‘Spirit of Troy’ here for this momentous occasion. We can’t thank the club enough, especially the major sponsors: Jerry and Anne Linehan; Dick Shaloub; Helene Galen; Plaza Dental Group – La Quinta; and Paul Salata from Orange County.”
The fitting theme: “Palm Desert on Parade – Through the Decades: 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s & Today” will chronicle where the city and parade have come over the last 50 years. More than 100 local businesses, nonprofits, schools and associations are starting their float designs in preparation for the big reveal, when scores of entries will head down famous El Paseo.
“There truly is something for everyone at the event! We invite the entire Coachella Valley to come on out for a great day,” said Hardin.
The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade steps off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014. For more information visit www.golfcartparade.com
