Every day Fire and EMS personnel respond to workplace accidents resulting in injury and even death.  It’s estimated that nearly 4 million employees suffer from a workplace injury and employers spend more than $170 billion on associated costs each year.  Many of these accidents could be avoided if an education and prevention program were in place says Fire Chief Sam DiGiovanna.

Each June, the National Safety Council encourages organizations to get involved and participate in National Safety Month (NSM).  NSM is an annual observance to educate and influence behaviors around leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths.  “While safety is important year-round, June is a great time to get everyone involved as the nation observes National Safety Month.”

This year’s theme is “Safety Starts with Me.”  Successful organizations engage everyone in safety and create a culture where people feel a personal responsibility not only for their own safety, but for that of their coworkers, family and friends. While leadership from the top is important, creating a culture where there is a sense of ownership of safety by all, makes everyone in the organization a safety leader.

No matter what size your business is or what you do, Safety Starts with You! – I mean Me?  It doesn’t matter, let’s get started now!
