Following more than 14 months of a dark stage due to the coronavirus pandemic, Coachella Valley Repertory will resume in-person entertainment with its Summer Classical Music Series. Each month a new partner will take the stage to present a classical music performance. Tickets will go on sale June 2, 2021.
May’s performance will feature the Winners Competition presented by The Steinway Society of Riverside County. The 2021 Awards Festival Winners Concert was filmed in its entirety on CVRep’s stage on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Until the County releases updated guidelines, house capacity is limited to 50 persons. Accordingly, this concert will be presented via Zoom on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 7:00 pm PST. To register, visit cvrep.org.
This two-hour program will showcase teen classical music performers. Pianists include:
Edina Zhang, performing Sonatina in A Minor Op. 88 by 17th Century composer Friedrich Kuhlau;
Abby Ziyue Bi, performing Sonata in F Major K332 i. Allegro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart;
Matthew Sakata, performing Impromptu in C Minor Op. 90 No.1 by Franz Schubert;
Evangelyn Wuchner, performing Impromptu in a Flat Major Op. 90 No. 4 by Schubert;
Jadon Wu, performing Concert Etude Op. 40 Prelude by Soviet composer and pianist Nikolai Kapustin;
Ben Phipatanakul, performing Ballade No. 2 in G Minor Op. 23 by Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic period, Frederic Chopin;
Isabella Cao, performing Scherzo No. 2 in B flat Minor Op. 31 by Chopin;
Christina Liu, performing Tarantella by Hungary’s Franz Liszt, widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of all time;
Kathleen Gurning, performing Waltz from Faust by Liszt; and,
Matthew Gurning, performing Reminiscences de Don Juan by Liszt.
CVRep’s Summer Classical Music Series will continue with The Waring International Piano Competition on June 24, 2021 at 7:00 pm. The Palm Springs Opera Guild of the Desert; and The Latsos. These concerts will allow limited in-person attendance, and will be shown in their entirety via special event Theatre Thursdays.
The Virginia Waring International Piano Competition Concert will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 7:00 pm PST. Victor Shlyakhtenko will perform a 60-minute concert before a live audience. Attendance may be limited in accordance with the State of California reopening guidelines. All safety measures will be in place to assure the health and safety of patrons, performers and crew.
Rounding out the Summer Classical Music Series, The Palm Springs Opera Guild of the Desert will perform in July; and, Giorgi Latso and Anna Fedorova-Latso will perform as part of a special CVRep fundraising event in August. Details on these exciting performance and tickets will be available soon.
