If your head is in the present, but your heart and soul long for a time machine to the music of the 1970’s, you’re in for a treat on Sunday night. Gina Carey, winner of the “Best Contemporary Artist” at the 2015 CV Music Awards, will be performing a free concert in celebration of her newest album, Can You Dig It.
Gina Carey’s 12 album, released in August, 2015, is reminiscent of a 70’s funk-soul style and an effort to revive “music of old with more substance.” Ask Carey about why she enjoys the genre and she will tell you, “not only was it fun, but I think the music connected better with listeners. Timeless music never goes out of style.” Carey describes Can You Dig It as a funky retro soul album that captures the sound of the late 70’s and early eighties with a modern twist.
On Sunday, September 13th, from 5pm to 7pm at Clementine Gourmet Marketplace & Café in Palm Desert, Carey will perform songs from Can You Dig It. Jamming along with the vocalist will be her husband, recording artist and former guitar player of “The Chi-lights,” John Carey, Theo Coakley of the 70’s funk band, “T- Connection,” Rosco Bastillios, and Ty Sticks on Drums. Gary Donnelly of KJJZ-FM 95.9FM The OASIS 95.9 will host the event.
Carey performs only occasionally with this line-up of musicians. To see this incredible vocalist really stretch out with her own high-energy original material and the backing of stellar performers is a treat that only comes along once in a while and is not to be missed.
“It’s going to be such a fun event,” says Carey. “We have invited guests to dress in their favorite 70’s outfits. There’s a prize for best dressed.” There is no cover charge for the event. Drink specials are priced at $5 and food specials at $6.
Carey’s latest singles, “Gimmie the Soul” and “Funkalicious” are receiving worldwide radio support and are currently charting in the top 10 in the UK. “Funkalicious” is a groovy, funky 70’s type soul track with a 70’s lingo hook line and retro style horns that is quickly growing in popularity within the independent soul community. It has also inspired a line of t-shirts for men and women featuring retro graphics.
A woman of many talents, Gina Carey has written and recorded 12 albums, and has written and produced the last 6 out the 12. She is the author & publisher of her own book, “The Unexpected,” which attracted the interest of over 1000 readers within the few weeks of its release. She has written and directed 4 stage plays, owns her own independent record label, “Gico Music” and entertainment company “Soul Jazzy Entertainment.” Her albums, In His Time and Melodic each landed the #1 spot on the UK charts.
