It’s a hot topic that’s loitering the pipeline of modern communication these days … Sustainability. From self-sustainable homes and living, to sustainable energy, and now, Sustainable Aviation Fuel or [SAF]. It is inspiring to see just how much humanity is now willing to explore alternative power and fuel sources to help spare the planet for future generations.
So, what is [SAF] or Sustainable Aviation Fuel? Well, Sustainable Aviation Fuel is an alternative fuel used by aircrafts made from non-petroleum feedstocks. Its purpose is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from air transportation. Hopefully, we all agree that this, along with the termination of chem trails is much needed.
According to the International Civil Aviation Organization [ICAO], a whopping 360,000 commercial flights have now used SAF as a replacement fuel at 46 airports in the United States, and Europe. This is a wide-spreading plus for planetary conservationists.
Here’s a fun fact: Worldwide, aviation accounts for approximately 2% of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and 12% of total CO2 emissions.
The international aviation industry has set a goal to reach a net zero carbon by 2050. This of course aligns with most governments wishing to see significant pollution reduction going into effect by the year 2030. The Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge was announced in 2021, and brings multiple federal agencies together for the purpose of expanding domestic consumption of [SAF] to 3 billion gallons by 2030, and 35 billion gallons by 2050. All this while achieving a 50% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions.
Renewable hydrocarbon biofuels offer a medley of incredible benefits. These include, engine and infrastructure compatibility – [SAF] blended with conventional Jet A fuel can be used in existing aircraft and infrastructure. Fewer emissions, compared with conventional jet fuel, 1005 [SAF] has the ability of potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 94%.
So, next time you look up at the big blue, or grey sky above, know that the pathways for the sun’s solar rays to come down and energize your solar panel arrays are becoming clearer.
