“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” Coretta Scott King
POP CITY is a podcast for listeners to see and hear about the beauty of the Coachella Valley through the words, business adventures, life stories, and the personalities of the people who live and visit the area.
Originally created for an IHub radio show with Bobbie Eakes, Melissa Neiderman realized the community’s magic was something special. “The fascinating stories we were hearing weren’t just from beloved celebrities but, also, from the community members here in the desert.”
After Bobbie went off to begin her next chapter, Melissa missed the conversations, the laughter, and the surprises of doing the show. “It was an easy choice for me to ask Renae Madore to be the co-host for POP CITY. She is personable, a hard-worker, fun to hang with, and knows SO many people here!”
They decided to focus on showcasing those who work hard to bring inspirational ideas and businesses to the area while also highlighting the tremendous compassion hugging our valley. “The way the community rallied around helping a little girl to raise money for her cancer treatments, the way strangers stepped up to search for my dog when he went missing, and how people quickly worked to aid a business that fell on hard times lives deep in my heart. This is our love letter to all of them,” says Melissa.
Both Renae and Melissa know the area and the people pretty well. Renae has lived here since 1997 and Melissa moved here in 1989, both were teachers in the valley. Renae owns her own jewelry company, RM Designs, where her pieces have been worn by many celebrities such as Cindy Crawford, Bobbie Eakes, Kimberlin Brown, Judith Chapman, Tristan Rogers, Rick Springfield and more. Melissa is the daughter of best-selling author Andrew Neiderman( V.C. Andrew ghostwriter) and the wife of Rick Springfield’s keyboardist, Tim Gross. She puts most of her time and energy into creating local charity events for many non-profits.
“This is our paradise and we look forward to sharing it with everyone who joins us on POP CITY!”
