In a world sometimes shadowed by darkness, there are beacons of hope that shine brightly, illuminating paths of support, love, and resilience. One such beacon is the Desi Strong Foundation, dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer through awareness, support for patients and families, and raising crucial funds for a cure. As they gear up for their 6th Annual Run/Walk 4 Kids on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, the community is invited to join hands, hearts, and feet in a compassionate stride towards a brighter future for children battling cancer.
The Run/Walk 4 Kids is a family and pet-friendly event held at the Rancho Mirage Community Park. Registration begins at 6:30 am, with the 5k chip-timed race starting promptly at 8 am. But it’s not just about crossing the finish line—it’s about the journey, the shared determination to make a difference in the lives of young warriors facing unimaginable challenges. Every step taken, every mile conquered, is a testament to the collective commitment to providing comfort, relief, and unwavering support to families battling pediatric cancer.
The Desi Strong Foundation was named after Desirae Ava Grace Cechin, born on June 5, 2009, in Palm Springs, California. On April 15, 2014, Desi’s life was forever changed we her parents received the news that no parent wants to hear. After a CT scan it was discovered she had stage IV High-Risk Neuroblastoma cancer, which was an extremely aggressive cancer that required intensive, painful treatments. On March 16, 2016, regrettably Desi lost her long, hard-fought battle to cancer.
Through their tireless efforts, the Desi Strong Foundation offers not only financial support but also the invaluable gift of love and companionship. In joining the Run/Walk 4 Kids, participants become part of a community dedicated to fighting the beast called childhood cancer, one step at a time. By walking alongside the Desi Strong Foundation, you can contribute to the funding that fuels groundbreaking research, innovative treatments, and vital support services for children and families impacted by cancer.
