As you prepare Super Bowl festivities for this weekend make sure to be a good sport and keep your ‘Safety’ front and center at all times says Fire Chief Sam DiGiovanna.
Are you hosting the game in your home field? Any good Quarterback will avoid a false start with unhealthy foods. Keep everyone from getting sidelined by adding healthy snacks to your menu instead of high fat foods. Or just go for that Hail Mary by serving all healthy snacks.
Use your best ‘Side Judge’ as you prepare game day meals and snacks. Follow food safety guidelines to prevent illness. Obtain that first yard of fresh foods at all times. If you’re barbequing make sure your fire extinguisher is not underinflated and keep it near while fully charged. Keep the grid iron and grill away from combustibles.
Limit alcohol. None of us want that penalty for drinking and driving. Have your ‘Tail Back’ take steps to make sure you and other guests avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. A penalty like that could cost you your game!
Ensure your ‘Center’ stays focused and designate a non-drinking driver before any party or celebration begins.
Don’t go out of bounds by leaving children unattended. Score extra points by making sure your pets can handle the excitement before placing them in new or strange situations.
Don’t be the “Defensive Lineman” by being a poor sport and offend others or opponents. Even the best of people and their behavior have a tendency to change on Super Bowl Sunday.
Be on your best game. No one likes that offensive lineman that throws more insults than touchdowns. You’ll avoid getting tackled un-expectantly. Alcohol & egos do not mix. Show good sportsmanship conduct and keep the attitude in check.
Have fun, be safe and avoid any unnecessary roughage by using common sense. Follow these and your sure to win this year’s Superbowl!
