Many ask “what difference do the holidays make?” Well, they represent our season, and that means more drinking at: parties, golf, football games etc… and of course more traffic. More traffic means more accidents…as well as drinking and driving arrests. We are here if/when that happens.
With a DUI or Traffic Accident your first question should be, Do I Really Need a Lawyer? Then ask yourself if you had selected someone before the need arises and you are stressed out?
On my legal talk show, Accidentally Yours, and legal column Dale Gribow On The Law, I ask the simple question…Who is your Lawyer? Most people can name their plumber and electrician, but they don’t know the name of their lawyer…which probably means they have not considered the question yet.
I ask, What are you waiting for? Finding a lawyer is not something you want to leave until you urgently need one. Unfortunately “people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan”! Plan now, BEFORE a PIDUI need arises and you are stressed and forced to make a quick decision.

Lawyers advertise: Call Me if you have been in an accident, or …I will get you maximum recovery! Most will tell you the same thing…get medical treatment, take your car to a body shop, don’t talk or sign anything etc. However, it’s not that easy. As a young PI lawyer, I thought that was all there was to it.
There is more to a PI case than seeing a chiro… and in those days settling for 3 times the meds. Sadly that is no longer the offer from most insurance companies. With time I learned how to maximize a recovery when there is psychological overlay from the accident. This includes what happens when you hear breaks screech or your constantly looking in the rear and side mirrors or your accident nightmares.
As a young lawyer, I didn’t know how to maximize a recovery with Loss of Past Earnings AND loss of Future Earnings… let alone future medical issues that could surface in 6 months or a few years. I didn’t understand why the plaintiff should not let their friend next fix their car at a discount or why, they should be limited to a $35 car rental when they drove an expensive car. You are entitled to rent a comparable car…and my clients do.
Many think they are ok but later have medical problems, and then it is harder to prove they were from the accident. Many say, the most beautiful curve on a woman’s body is her smile, which disappears after an accident. How do you compensate her? Though many think they are ok, they should still get a complete medical exam… from a Doc who focuses on PI’s. Everyone needs a doctor who understands symptoms don’t always surface right after an accident, and understands how to document them in a med/legal report.
As a young lawyer Dale didn’t understand how important the med/legal report was, in addition to finding specialized doctors, including an orthopedist and psychologist. For decades Gribow has advocated retaining a lawyer who can “assist” your doctor with a good med/report. Many of our local docs were not taught how to a write a medical legal report in “Their Medical School.” Gribow actually was on the faculty of the International College of Orthopedic Surgeons at their annual convention, teaching How to Write a Med/Legal Report.
