You hear a lot about how Keto and low carb are interchangeable.  Most people think of Keto as a low carb diet…and it is. There is, however, a difference between the two diets.  When you are eating a Keto diet, you’re burning fat  (ketones) for energy instead of carbohydrates (glucose) on a low carb diet.   Even though you are eating low carb, you are still using carbs for your fuel. And, the amount of carbs consumed is much higher on a low carb diet.

LOW-CARB WITHOUT KETOSIS

Keep in mind that just because you reduce the amount of carbs you eat does not mean that you’re  burning body fat for energy.

There’s no need to be producing ketones to lose weight with low carb. People who lower their daily intake to less than 75-100 grams a day have been successful in dropping pounds. And, if you have an active lifestyle on low carb…even better!

LOWERING DAILY CARBS

Why would you want to consider a low carb diet?  It’s a great place to start if you fuel yourself with carb-laden meals all day long and snack too!  When you start eating less carbs you won’t be spiking insulin and blood sugars.  So, you will start to lose weight even though you’re still using carbs as your fuel.  And, it gives you a chance to ease into a low carb lifestyle.   It may be better for you to start with low carb and work your way up to Keto or decide if you are more comfortable with a low carb diet only. If you’re eating low-carb, and your goal is not to be in ketosis, you’ll still lose weight.

Keto on the other hand is  only 20 grams of total carbs a day so it is incredibly low carb in comparison.  The beauty of Keto, though, is you’ll have more energy, won’t be hungry, burn fat and lose weight faster. (When you think of burning fat, I want you to think body fat that’s around your belly and booty and anywhere else…this alone is making Keto the hottest diet ever right now)

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE IN KETOSIS?

The only way to know for sure if you’re in a state of ketosis is confirming it through daily testing with affordable ketone strips that you can buy at your local pharmacy.

LOW-CARB VS KETO FOR WEIGHT LOSS

You have the choice to decide what’s best for you  based on your current lifestyle and weight loss goals.    Here’s the bottom line:  It’s possible to lose weight on both a low-carb diet and a ketogenic diet.

If you choose Keto,  and stay in ketosis,  you’ll quickly find it’s really the best way to lose weight.  Even more important, it’s the best way to lose body fat.  If you stay in ketosis, your body will be burning fatty acids (ketones) for energy and burning fat. So, it’s likely that after a short time on Keto you’ll notice your clothes will fit much looser and the results you are looking for happen faster.

If you’re still undecided, I’m here to help you make that choice and look at your mindset around carbs.  We’ll also evaluate your lifestyle and goals to decide what will work best for you to start losing weight.    Mention CV Weekly when you book a free 30-minute consult with me at ketoiseasycoach.com and I’ll give you my guide to low-carb/keto dieting.
