Coachella Valley Opens Preseason Play with 5-2 Loss to Milwaukee

The Coachella Valley Firebirds, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Seattle Kraken, fell to the Milwaukee Admirals in the first game of the weekend preseason series by the final score of 5-2. David Goyette and Jani Nyman each scored for the Firebirds in the defeat at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO, the home of the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks.

The two teams exchanged goals in the opening period as Anthony Angello beat Coachella Valley goaltender Nikke Kokko top shelf to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead 7:23 into the first. Jagger Firkus intercepted a feed inside Admirals territory and backhanded a pass to David Goyette to tie the game at 16:45.

Milwaukee regained the lead 3:40 into the second period on a Kieffer Bellows goal. Coachella Valley responded as Lleyton Roed took a shot from the left point that was tipped by Jani Nyman past goalie Magnus Chrona. David Noel earned the secondary assist on Nyman’s goal at 7:49.

Victor Ostman replaced Kokko in net in a planned goalie swap to begin the third period. Reid Schaeffer ripped a shot past Ostman to put the Admirals ahead just 31 seconds into the third period. Joakim Kemell cashed in on a Milwaukee powerplay to extend the lead to 4-2. Anthony Angello cashed in on the empty net to seal the 5-2 win for the Admirals.
