“Fight Like A Girl” Expo, Symposium and Fashion Show, October 3rd @ The Riviera Hotel, Palm Springs 5-9 PM

by Lisa Morgan

What used to be considered a term of weakness, will soon become a phrase praising and encouraging some of the toughest fighters on the planet, that is if Caroldean Ross and friends have their way. A “Fight Like A Girl” Expo, Symposium and Fashion Show event, raising funds and awareness for breast cancer will be the their platform, and reigning WBC Boxing champion, Mia Saint John, will be present to ensure it.

“It’s a combination of great things coming together into one fantastic event,” shared Ross. “This is the evolution of ‘Sleeping in for a Cure’, a project that has been building over the last 7 years. It’s no longer a sleep over; it’s a breast cancer awareness symposium.” Everything about the event will be geared to raising awareness and funds for the new local non-profit, The Charity Godmother. The theme includes honoring women and their achievements plus the color pink, and guests will be encouraged to dress accordingly.

“Fight Like a Girl” is set for Friday, October 3 at the Riviera Resort in downtown Palm Springs, from 5 – 9 pm. Tickets are $75 with a limited number of VIP tickets that include premium Fashion Show seating for $100. Participants will enjoy an opening Cocktail Party from 5-6:30 pm with hors d’oeuvres, a signature cocktail from Crater Lake Vodka, no-host bar plus the Spa Garden and Shopping Expo, featuring over 20 exhibitors and a Silent Auction. Following at 6:30 pm will be a Symposium featuring Dr. Chopra, Dr. Ordon, Dr. Ekko and Dr. Funk who will discuss the “before, during and after” aspect of cancer, wellness and formulas for survival. And concluding the evening will be a Fashion Show featuring local retailers and 12 cancer survivors as the models, at 8 pm. A fun part of the evening will be a special raffle of donated wine bottles. All attendees will be encouraged to donate a bottle of their favorite wine, and one lucky winner will take all of the bottles home.

All proceeds raised at the inaugural “Fight Like a Girl,” with a goal of $25,000, have been designated by Charity Godmother to directly support a team of ten women cyclists, the PS Spoke-models of whom Ross is captain, in the upcoming YSC (Young Survival Coalition supporting breast cancer survivors) “Tour de Pink” on October 17-19. This fundraising race takes place over 3 days, with a course that starts in Paso Robles and ends in Point Mugu, CA. Details on this amazing event can be found at www.ysctourdepink.org.

Charity God Mother was sprung from the depths of personal heartache when a childhood friend of Caroldean’s was diagnosed with the silent killer, Pancreatic Cancer. She raised funds for her friend’s “Bucket List” wish and Charity God Mother was born. “I’ve been touched from almost every angle by cancer. I lost my sister to it, my mother is a survivor, and I lost my brother to Leukemia.” Leave it to Caroldean Ross to once again, turn lemons into a pink lemonade cosmopolitan.
