Modernism Week starts February 15, and while some events are already sold out, many events still have tickets available. These include home tours, neighborhood tours, films, talks, parties and more. Available events are easily located on the Modernism Week website (modernsimweek.com) by choosing the option “Tickets Still Available” from the drop-down menu. Modernism Week’s signature 11-day festival will take place February 15-25, 2018. Some highlighted events that still have availability include:

Modernism Week’s first Showcase Home by Thomboy Properties is a custom-built home from 1975 by architect Hal Lacy recently renovated to modern luxury.

Modernism Week Featured Home – Maison a l’Orange

(Various dates and tour times); $30

An exclusive tour of this featured private home in South Palm Springs designed by H3K Design, featuring walls of glass, a soaring roof line, and a Googie-inspired lounge.

Modernism Week Featured Home – Hidden Frey

(Various dates and tour times); $30

A rare opportunity to tour a 1966 tennis estate designed by renowned Palm Springs architect Albert Frey, newly restored by Thomboy Properties, and relatively unknown because it is truly hidden from view.

Sunrise Lanai: The Miracle in the Desert (first time on tour)

Sunrise Lanai is a cross between a Polynesian Tiki hut and a Swiss chalet. Open for the first time during Modernism Week 2018, the crazy-but-cute condos are a must-see for fans of whimsical midcentury design.

Da Vaal Estates home tour puts the X in Extraordinary (first time on tour)

Tour several extraordinary homes with cut-away, sharply angled roofs, large overhangs, and triangular chimneystacks of stacked blocks. Many homes have original features and have been wonderfully restored.

Sunmor Estates Midcentury Home Tour

Step back in time to a remarkably intact collection of midcentury modern homes constructed in the late ’50s and early ‘60s. Several home interiors and landscapes will be featured on this walking tour.

Modernism Week’s signature bus tour is a 2.5 hour overview of the exteriors of significant civic, commercial and residential properties in notable Palm Springs neighborhoods.

House of Grace: Exclusive Home Tour & Afternoon Cocktails

February 18, 1 pm; $50

This exclusive gathering in an extraordinary award winning “modern villa” features Michael Ostrow of Grace Home Furnishings, Traditional Home Editor in Chief Jill Waage and homeowner Kurt Serrano, Senior Vice President of People at Pinterest, who will discuss the role of Pinterest and the designer/client collaboration process. Midday at the Oasis: Marrakesh Modernism Week Event

Modernism Week Keynote: Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Palm Springs: A Modernist Paradise

Tour & Talk at Home with Designer Michael Berman

“Modern Wonder: Enduring Legacy of Midcentury Design” unites Traditional Home Editor in Chief Jill Waage and designer Michael Berman who will explore the themes of midcentury design that have withstood the test of time and influenced generations of designers.

Film Screenings

Modernism Week has partnered with the American Documentary Film Festival (AmDocs) to create a new Architecture and Design Film Series to be offered for the first time during Modernism Week. The inaugural Architecture and Design Film Series will be held over three days from February 23-25 on the big screen at the Camelot Theater. It will feature 26 films, documentaries and short films. Frey: Part 1-The Architectural Envoy

Just released, this is the first film of a forthcoming 2 part series that explores Albert Frey’s early life and work in Europe to his New York architectural accomplishments in the 1930’s. It contains never-before published archival imagery, as well as breathtaking architectural footage.

Columbus

The son of a renowned architecture scholar finds himself stranded in Columbus, Indiana – a small Midwestern city celebrated for its many significant modernist buildings.

Sinatra In Palm Springs – A Place He Called Home

Cocktails at Canyon Country Club: A Tribute to Donald Wexler

This tribute to Donald Wexler demonstrates how one of Palm Springs’ most influential midcentury modern architects has enhanced our community immeasurably. The event includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a discussion about the impact and legacy of Donald Wexler.

Seymour’s Classic American Mixology Seminar, February 24, 2 and 3 PM, $55

CAMP attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to make classic American cocktails at the Seymour’s Mixology Seminar presented by Foundation 10 Creative. Using period ingredients, F10’s Beverage Director and co-owner of Seymour’s, Steen Bojsen-Moller, will teach how to shake, stir and enjoy authentic libations that started the cocktail craze. There are two sessions, each priced at $55 (fee includes welcome drink and creation of 3 cocktails to enjoy in session). Attendees must be 21 or older.

On-Site Design Consultations

CAMP attendees will be able to schedule thirty-minute sessions with either landscape design professionals or interior designers. In these consultations offered on two days, experts will give advice and recommendations on current or future renovation projects.

Ask an Interior Designer, 30-minute sessions from 10 AM – 4 PM, February 18, $30

In ASID LA’s “Ask a Professional Interior Designer” attendees will have the opportunity to sit down with interior design professionals to receive simple and affordable design solutions for their homes. Participants are encouraged to bring photos and existing floor plans of their home, as well as a wish list of improvements.

Ask a Landscape Designer, 30-minute sessions from 10 AM – 4 PM, February 18, $30

During the Association of Professional Landscape Designers “Ask a Landscape Designer” consultations, attendees will receive up to 30 minutes of advice from professional landscape designers who will help them create simple and affordable design solutions for their own gardens and solve their landscape design dilemmas.
